When it comes to crappy, generic stories with stereotypical characters, the Dreamcast seems to have them in spades. Take, for instance, Dynamite Cop. Modern day pirate terrorists have hijacked a cruise ship and among the passengers is, wait for it, the president's daughter. USGOVERMENT decides that they can't have that, so they send in their elite anti-modern day pirate terrorist squad to go rescue THE PRESIDENT'S DAUGHTER and maybe also some other people sure I guess. The elite sqaud consists of the white captian/leader (Bruno), the chick who's well endowed (Ivy), and the token black guy (Eddie). Hmm, that seems pretty familiar.
The combat in Dynamite Cop focuses more on the hand-to-hand/foot-to-face methodology of battle instead of gunplay. That's not to say that there aren't guns, however. In fact, there are weapons galore thrown about the cruise ship, including:
- Giant Tuna
- Dinner Roll
- Black Pepper
- Hand Gun
- Machine Gun
- Bow and Arrow
- Broom
- Anti-tank Cannon
- Fish (different from Giant Tuna)
You can also pick up the enemies and beat the other enemies with them. It's quite comical.
At the start of the game, you choose one of three approaches to the ship. The choice is really just cosmetic; you fight the same bosses in just about the same areas, and the only real difference being the order in which the areas come in. At the end of the game you fight Wolf Hongo, the leader of the pirates. At this point in the game, Wolf's given no demands as to why he hijacked (and subsequently blew up) the cruise ship, but that doesn't matter, because he's grafted some gun/laser/all purpose villiain utensil to his head and he's out to kill you.
If you manage to defeat him with the help of a friend, the president's daughter then forces you and your partner to fight to the death for a "reward" from her dad. Creepy. Overall, this game is DYN-O-MITE!!!!!
